I don't suppose anyone's given any more thought to what happened before we were all forced to trick or treat.

[No, not the gravity thing. Zelena doesn't care about that aside from being annoyed that it happened to begin with.]

Unless you've all managed to deal with it quietly, but I've been here long enough to know that when something big happens, it's far from quiet. So then, the way I see it, either you're all still looking for that supposed spy and made absolutely no progress.

[She's sticking to voice, but the amusement in her tone probably makes it clear that she finds that hilarious.]

Or you've simply given up, and decided to ignore it. Can't say that would surprise me either, though it's a bit disappointing. Here I was hoping you'd all provide some sort of entertainment by accusing and turning on each other. But no, I suppose that's really just too much to ask, isn't it?

( she's not bringing up anything he hasn't already considered. frankly, he doesn't have to know what turned Emma to the darkness. no matter what it is, he'll feel guilty for not protecting her from it.

he's not going to admit it to Zelena, though. )

You're easy to blame because you're constantly guilty, aren't you? You killed someone she loved, you murdered a woman she was trying to save. If anyone deserves punishment, it'd be you. ( the shoe fits pretty well, as far as he's concerned. ) You're lucky for that whelp you're carrying, even drowned in darkness Emma wouldn't have it in her to harm a child.

( just... force her to be born super early to get her out of the way, but that's cool, right? )

Because you're so untouchable, is it? Hate to break it to you, love, but every plan you've ever made has been foiled much sooner than later. After you spent downright decades scheming about them, too.

( playing disaffect is a game two can play, and despite the tense cut of his jaw, he can be pretty good at it when he wants to be. )

You might be mad enough to cut off your own hand, but last I remember you were right back where you started, tucked away in a basement with only cement walls to listen to your nattering. We'll get back one day and when we do, you're a powerless failure trapped with your own misery.

Not that you're any less useless here, frankly. Stirring up uncertainty about spies, I do wonder why nobody takes you seriously.

( no he doesn't. sarcasm. )

( never let him see that he's getting to you, Zelena. he pretends not to be but there's still a part of him that delights in making other people miserable. it's stronger than usual, lately, and he doesn't have any easy targets now that he's supposedly Good. )

Of course you will. Just like you'll see Wonderland again, with the little one in tow. I've never met a woman as gifted at lying to herself as you, Zelena. ( of course he remembers that. he'd held his tongue then but now he sees no reason to. he got her to squirm so why not twist the knife with the reminder she'll never get what she is hoping for? Regina and Robin won't allow it, even Zelena has to know that. she could get there, possibly, and they'd all be glad to be quit of her, but the baby wouldn't be with her. not in a million years. )

For all your posturing and proclamations of wickedness, all you do is grouse and do what you're told. I'd say quit while you're ahead, but you'd need to be ahead for that.

( you know what's also a pretty bad idea? engaging a notoriously violent woman just because he can. oh, his success feels good — a little too good, actually, he finds the anger burning off her rather delightful instead of frightening — but what good can come of it?

none, and perhaps that's why a part of him is responding so easily to it.

he is surprised, but only barely. he turns toward her snarling face with one of distinct disinterest, considering he's staring down a woman that has used her magic on him on more than one occasion. )

Which part? The bit where you'll never get to raise that baby of yours? Or that you're hilariously inept at all this wickedness you like to go on about?

( apparently, saying it to her face is no problem at all. )

( if you think about it, maybe magic might have been better. it could have left a bit more of a dent. or perhaps it doesn't matter at all, in the long run. nothing she could have done would have stuck for long, and it wasn't just Wonderland to blame for that.

there's a sense of pain from the knife, of course there is. he laughs, almost surprised but not really. it's not that he ever doubted she had it in her, after all, for all his mouthing off. no, he's not surprised, a part of him was expecting it. maybe pushing for it. he hasn't been able to forget his fight with Alistair, hasn't forgotten the lack of injury from that, either. not to say he really wanted to get stabbed, but he certainly could have worked harder to avoid it.

when he pulls the blade free there's a stain of blood on the blade, yet no mark left behind. everything that's been wrong since he arrived clicks together, like jagged pieces of a particularly ugly puzzle. he knows this power, he knows what drowns a man in darkness, inspires him to easy hatred, keeps him from sleeping, keeps him from harm. he doesn't know how it happened, but he knows exactly what is wrong with him. )

Look at that. It already isn't sticking.

( he laughs again, just at the sheer bizarreness of it. he's a dark one. he's the creature he vowed to kill, centuries ago. he can't imagine how, or why, but suddenly it seems so obvious. someone didn't want him to remember, didn't want any of them to remember. why is that, he has to wonder?

Zelena is honestly a secondary concern on top of all the rest. yet she's still very much present, and that might not be a good thing, considering she did just stab him. )

I don't suggest you try again now, witch. Unless you're willing to let me return the favor, and I don't think you'll take it quite as well.

( nothing about his expression or composure suggests he's joking about that, either. so much for all his heroism, push come to shove, even when the push can't harm him, he's just as happy to regress as the wicked witch herself. )
