[ video ]
[The video shows a smiling Elizabeth, who appears to be having a marvelous time. She's holding a paintbrush and there's remnants of colored paints all over her hands, face, clothes, and even hair.]
I'm having the most wonderful streak of inspiration! I don't know why, but I just can't stop! Who has time to eat and sleep when there's so much to paint!
For example, I've just finished a series of compositions based on some of our most lovely people here in Wonderland.
[She begins to hold up painting after painting of familiar faces.]
Aren't they great? But where will I put them all? Maybe I'll hang them around the mansion or perhaps the library.
[ooc: I fail at photoshop and making them look like paintings. So just pretend they're nice and based off the following, which I tried to manipulate a bit. The words after each are Elizabeth commenting on her work. XD]
D'artagnan - Oh, D'artagnan, he has the sweetest face! Don't you think? I hope he's doing alright.
Aramis - Isn't he just the most handsome man on the face of the earth?
Athos - Isn't Athos a dignified looking man?
Lindsey - Mr. Mcdonald is so calm and casual, he just puts me at ease. Next time, I'll paint him with a guitar!
Hannibal - Dr. Lecter is so utterly refined! What a gentleman!
You know what? I really need some friends who are girls!

Elizabeth sighs and opens her eyes when she's on the bench.]
I'm so sorry; I don't know what came over me.
[action]
[Maybe Elizabeth will listen to reason now. Steve had known he wasn't worrying for no reason.]
Where's your room? [There's no space for arguing anymore, Steve is going to carry her back to her room so she can get some proper rest.]
[action]
It's on the 9th floor, room 191. But I'm sure I'll be fine if I just sit for a minute. The paint is drying in the sun. I have to get back to it.
[Just some rest and maybe a glass of water will due. She hopes she won't have to start over on the painting, but if she must, then that's what she'll do.]
[action]
[Steve can move everything inside, at least for the moment, and then return it to Elizabeth's room later on. But he would rather get her to her bed sooner rather than later, and so he doesn't worry about the painting for now, instead grabbing Elizabeth back up into his arms.
The ninth floor is pretty high, but climbing that many stories while carrying someone isn't even enough to make Steve break into a sweat.
So he carries her inside and makes for the stairs.]
Just take a nap, at least, and you can always work on the painting after that, all right?
[action]
But it's nine flights! [Yes, he is very
muscularstrong, but she has doubts he can so casually walk a person up that many stairs.] Mr. Rogers, I don't want you to hurt yourself.[action]
[It's true. Elizabeth may as well weigh nothing for all of the strain that she's putting on him. Which is none.
Steve scales the stairs at a quick pace to make his point. He's a super soldier, he's got this.]
[action]
Well, I guess I under-estimated you. Is this sort of strength normal where you come from?
[She loops her arms about his neck, but loosely so as not to put any strain on him.]
[action]
Not exactly normal, no. I was part of an experiment that enhanced things like my strength and speed to above-human levels.
[He manages to talk about it casually. It's become such an integral part of his life that he doesn't really shy away from explaining it. It's just strange, since most everyone he normally interacts with knows, thanks to his reputation.]
[action]
[At first she's concerned, but something in his tone makes her wonder.]
And that was.. okay?
[He just sounds so casual about it.]
[action]
[There's never been a moment in Steve's life where he's regretted that choice. It's true that going to war (and taking Bucky with him) had come with its host of consequences, and while he feels some guilt over that, he mainly puts the blame on not being good enough to prevent Bucky's "death."
And sure, it turns out that his own sacrificial act had been for nothing, Steve's still chewing that part over. But he would never say that he wishes he'd remained small and underdeveloped and riddled with illnesses. At least he has the power to do some good now.
Right now, that amounts to taking Elizabeth to her room, but that's still more than he would have been able to do before.]
[action]
That's commendable of you.
[And certainly, at the moment, she does appreciate his help. It looks like they've nearly made it to the 9th floor, and her room is easy enough to find.]
[action]
[Steve still isn't very good at taking a compliment, but being thankful for them seems like a good first step.
He reaches Elizabeth's room in quick order and opens up the door. It seems kind of rude to be barging into someone's space like this, but there are extenuating circumstances, and so Steve just rushes to the bed to set her down carefully.]
There we go. Now get some rest, okay? I don't want to have to sit here and watch you to make sure you sleep.
[But if he has to, he will.]
[action]
Watch out for the books!
[She's afraid he might trip over them and hurt himself. There are piles of them here or there in the room. It's almost a library. There's also other evidence of her painting, such as the ones she showed off earlier all sitting in a row.
Once she's set down she smiles wryly at the remark about rest.]
Some would find that a little peculiar, but I believe you'd actually do it. I was going to offer you tea or some snacks, but I guess that's out of the question?
[action]
He smiles briefly when he notices the others paintings, too. They're even more impressive in person.]
It's out of the question if it means you've got to get out of bed, yeah. But can I bring you anything? To drink or to read?
Re: [action]
Some water, if you wouldn't mind?
[action]
[When Steve doesn't see any obvious container of water around, he decides to simply make use of her closet, and it gives her a bottle of it. It's even cold, strangely enough.
He carries it back over, twists the top off, and hands it to Elizabeth with a small smile.]
[action]
[She smiles to him, though she feels a little silly due to all the fuss.]
And that book there, if you would?
[On the dresser across the room is a copy of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.]
[action]
He hands it over to her and quirks a smile.]
How is it so far?
[action]
It's wonderful! It's my third time reading it.
[She accepts the book with a smile.]
It's about a man who is shunned for his appearance, but in actuality, he's quite a wonderful person on the inside and capable of so much more than one first thought.
Have you read it?
[action]
Although he's been lucky enough to have that changed, he can still relate.]
I haven't, but I'm starting to think I should. Could I borrow it when you're done? That can be your way of paying me back.
[Not that he requires anything in return, but Elizabeth seems like the sort who would get hung up on that, so they may as well get it out of the way.]
Re: [action]
You can take it now, if you'd like. As I said, I've already read it before.
[She wouldn't mind.]
[action]
[Steve backs up a step or two, to discourage her from handing it to him.]
Speaking of which, I think I'll leave you to do that now. If you want to finish up that painting at some point, just let me know.
[He's got to head back down and bring it inside, come to think of it.]
[action]
I do intend to finish the painting.
[She won't leave it unfinished, but she will rest for awhile.]
[action]
[Steve offers a smile and a wave, then steps through the door and closes it quietly behind him.]
